CMS Energy announced a significant new organizational structure to accelerate its operational transformation and long-term strategic goals, effective July 1, 2025. This change is designed to support the company’s mission of delivering safe, reliable, affordable, clean, and equitable energy to its customers while preparing for future growth and sustainability.

The restructuring introduces new leadership roles and distinct business units aimed at focusing on customer needs and operational excellence. Notably, Lauren Snyder will be appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Customer and Growth Officer, overseeing Customer Operations, Experience, Sales, Marketing, and Economic Development. Operational leadership roles are also redefined under EVP & COO Tonya Berry, who will manage Electric Supply, Electric Distribution, and Natural Gas Delivery, with respective presidents appointed for each business line.

This organizational redesign aligns closely with CMS Energy’s strategic priorities articulated in recent earnings calls. The company continues to invest heavily in clean energy, retiring 515 megawatts of coal capacity in 2023 and acquiring low-cost, reliable generating assets such as the 1.2-gigawatt Covert Generating Plant. CMS Energy’s ambitious clean energy targets include 60% renewables by 2035 and 100% clean energy by 2040, supported by Michigan’s progressive Clean Energy law offering roughly a 9% return on clean power purchase agreements.

Financially, CMS Energy reported total revenue of \(1.743 billion and net income of \)253 million for the third quarter of 2024, reflecting solid commercial, electric, gas, and renewable energy segment contributions. The company’s restructuring and strategic focus are expected to reinforce this performance trajectory by driving innovation, operational efficiency and customer-focused growth.

The restructuring also strengthens CMS Energy’s regulatory and legal teams headed by EVP Shaun Johnson and Senior VP Kelly Hall to navigate an evolving regulatory landscape. CFO Rejji Hayes will additionally oversee NorthStar Clean Energy, further integrating financial stewardship with sustainability initiatives.

CMS Energy operates within Michigan’s highly constructive regulatory environment, which supports investment certainty and customer affordability. The recent appointments to the Michigan Public Service Commission underscore this stability and the company’s readiness to meet future challenges in energy transition and infrastructure modernization.

This dynamic organizational evolution positions CMS Energy to lead in energy innovation, sustainability, and customer service excellence — priorities critical in today’s energy market facing increasing weather-related disruptions and decarbonization demands.
